At just four years old, Stellah had already experienced a pain that no child should ever have to endure. A victim of severe burns caused by her stepmother, she carried deep physical scars and a limitation in her arm that even prevented her from raising her hand to play with other children her age.
For months, she endured painful treatments and sleepless nights due to constant itching and difficulty moving. But her story, which seemed marked by suffering, found a turning point thanks to the solidarity of the many friends of Fondazione Italia Uganda.
The Turning Point: The Surgery That Restored Her Freedom
In 2025, thanks to the donors of Fondazione Italia Uganda, Stellah was able to undergo a delicate and expensive reconstructive surgery that her family could never have afforded otherwise.
This was a fundamental intervention because it allowed her not only to heal the visible scars but, above all, to restore full functionality to her arm, allowing her to move again without pain.
Today, Stellah is smiling again. Her arm is free, her wounds have stopped burning, and she can finally run and play with other children without feeling excluded or different. Her healing is not just physical: it is a sign of rebirth and hope.
Stellah and Other Stories of Courage and Redemption
Stellah’s story is intertwined with many others we encounter every day in Uganda. Like that of Happy Poline or Maria, the child nobody wanted, but who today—thanks to the loving care of Sister Lucy—finally has a home where she feels protected and welcomed.
These children remind us that every gesture of solidarity can change the destiny of a life: where there once seemed to be only pain, today there is room for the possibility of growing, studying, and smiling again.
