Father Giovanni “John” Scalabrini was an Italian missionary who dedicated his entire life to supporting the people of Uganda. Arriving in Uganda in 1964, he remained there until 2016, the year he passed away He worked in the north first and then in the capital Kampala where he built schools and colleges, an orphanage and a hospital around his mission. He supported the studies of thousands of orphans and children and youths from disadvantaged families, and taught hundreds of youngsters and adults a trade.
